With an idyllic location, surrounded by peaceful woodland, Herons Brook Retreat Lodges are the perfect place for a relaxing lodge break. The charming market town of Narberth is just one mile away, so although the lodges are very tranquil, they are not too isolated. We recommended Herons Brook Retreat Lodges to couples wanting a picturesque setting and spacious accommodation with an added touch of luxury!

Those who enjoy golf will be in their element here, as the site has an 18 hole course. There is also a coffee shop with internet access. Take the short walk or drive into Narbeth and you can enjoy the town's street cafés, galleries and boutique shops. This is also a region of outstanding natural beauty and walking, cycling and sailing are all on offer nearby.

There are three types of lodge to choose from. Rowan Tree Lodges sleep 4 and were new to the site in 2011. The luxurious lodges have one master double with ensuite shower room and one twin bedroom as well as a spacious family bathroom. The living space is contemporary and open plan and includes a stylish kitchen/dining area and a lounge with doors leading out to the private verandah. This type of lodge is available for Adults only.

Hornbeam Lodges are also exclusively for adults and are perfect for romantic breaks. The lodges sleep 4 and in addition to the facilities of the Rowan Tree Lodges, also have luxurious private hot tubs.

Our Top Tip
"Nearby Narbeth has some fantastic restaurants for romantic dinners."

Fun Days Out in Pembrokeshire

Treasure Island Fun Centre is situated in the Anglesey area of North of Wales and there is really no better place to take children on a rainy day. The fantastic all weather attraction features a huge array of slides, chutes, climbing frames, ball pools and mazes. Energetic kids can really let of steam while the grown ups can relax in the cafe with a drink and a snack. There are separate areas four younger children to play safely, so no one is left out of the fun.

Penrhyn Castle is a neo-Norman castle is located in the stunning Gwynedd region of Wales. The castle will appeal to those who enjoy sites of historical interest as well as to families looking to enjoy a fun day out. The Castle is in very good condition and guided tours are on offer. Don't miss a look at the grand hall with its exquisite collection of paintings or the Victorian Kitchen which gives amazing insight into the running of the Castle. Other highlights include the Servants Rooms and the one ton slate bed which was originally made for Queen Victoria.

This attraction is really something special and has reached the finals of the "Best Family Day Out" category in the National Tourism Awards for Wales.  It's actually the only attraction in North Wales to be shortlisted for this prestigious award. Located in the Snowdonia region there are many rides and activities including Jungle Boat Adventure, Den Building, Green Dragon Roller Caoster, Treetop Towers and the BareFoot Trail.  Kids of all ages will love it here and we think it's excellent value as well.

Located in the North of Wales with a spectacular setting high above Colwyn Bay this is a lovely zoo which makes an excellent family day out.  Highlights include the Chimp Encounter, Penguin Parades, Bear Falls and the Children's Farm.  The setting is perfect for walking around and you can take in the superb scenery, roam the wooded pathways and relax on the grassy slopes.  There are many rare and endangered species to see and learn about including the Snow Leopards and the Red Pandas not to mention the Sumatran Tigers. You can also buy the experience of being a zoo keeper for a day, either for yourself or as a gift.

A fantastic romantic break away! These lodges are simply amazing. We booked a lodge to celebrate a Birthday having never been to this area before. We wanted to try something new and we cannot recommend this place enough. The staff were simply amazing and went the extra mile to make our stay memorable.

The facilities are lovely - golf course on site, pretty views of the small lake in the middle and nice woodlands around the edge of the lodge park (not all lodges overlook the lake, only a select few).

We stayed in the Hornbeam Lodge 1.
I read some reviews before we stayed and noted that this one was the closest to reception, we didn't find this a problem at all, the lodge was completely private and was not overlooked by any other lodge, nor did we hear any noise from the main reception building. There was a gravel drive to our lodge (big enough to turn a car around) and plenty of space to enjoy outside (decked area). We unfortunately did not have a view of the lake but we were within a few seconds walk from it, at the end of the driveway.

The lodge itself was very clean and modern, well equipped with entertainment for families (board games/ DVDs etc) and everything you needed to cook meals. Bed sheets and towels were nice and fresh especially the heated towel rails for when you got out of the shower/ bath. The heating worked wonderfully and the Wi-Fi was ok (worked well in living room/ kitchen but cut off when you moved into the bedrooms), however still good 3G in the area.

Overall a great relaxing break away and we would definitely like to visit Heron's Brook Retreat again very soon!
