With Durham and Newcastle both within easy reach, these glorious lodges are set in over 40 acres of tranquil woodland with superb lakeside views. Northumberland National Park and the Cheviot Hills are just a short drive away as is the bustling market town of Morpeth with its shops and department stores, farmers' markets and lovely central park.

The castle at nearby Alnwick is well worth a visit, and a mooch around the town's independent and varied shops could end with afternoon tea in the treetop café in The Alnwick Garden. There are plenty of restaurants and pubs nearby or you could simply spend your evenings relaxing in your stylish lodge, complete with decking and private hot tub.

Bolam Lodge is a two bedroomed log lodge that comfortably sleeps six people. It has a master double bedroom, one twin and extra room in the lounge. The open plan lounge/kitchen/dining area is contemporary and spacious and there's a flat screen TV with Freeview and DVD as well as a family bathroom with rain forest shower.

Northumberland has more than 30 miles of fabulous coastline and more castles than any other county in England. You can test out your skills on the water with kite and windsurfing or take a boat trip to Farne Islands where you could spot razorbills, guillemots and even puffins!

Our Top Tip

Fun Days Out in Northumberland

With easy access from the A1 this lovely farm just north of Berwick makes a fantastic family day out.  Follow the farm trail and meet an array of friendly farm animals.  Kids will also enjoy the indoor and outdoor play areas, pet barn and tractor circuit.  The admission fee is excellent value and you will get a free bag of food for the animals and a bag of fish food for the trouts in the fish pond. When you want a bite to eat, the licensed restaurant is the place to go with quality home cooking and a charming location in some of the converted farm buildings.

Go Ape! has really taken off and become one of the most popular attractions in the UK.  The Northumberland course is set in the stunning grounds of Matfin Hall.  Described as a high wire forest adventure this really is one for the more daring as the course takes place right up in the tree tops.  Giant tree top obstacle courses include ladders, bridges, tunnels and some of the country's best zip lines.  You will be provided with all safety equipment and training on site.
