These luxury lodges offer the perfect retreat for those seeking a break away in a relaxed and picturesque environment just a short drive from the bustling market town of Thirsk and city of York nestled on the doorstep of the North Yorkshire Moors.

As the name would suggest the lodges have been designed around impressive and well stocked pleasure and match fishing lakes catering for all ages and abilities. There is a superb contemporary bar and restaurant.

There is also plenty to see and do in the local area with cathedral cities of York and Ripon both within easy reach. If its a day on the coast you're looking for then the popular resorts of Scarborough and Whitby can be reached in just over an hour taking in some of the most breathtaking scenery and picture postcard villages en route.  Fun family days out in this region include the fantastic Lightwater Valley theme park in Ripon just 7 miles from the park and Monk Park Farm which is great fun for younger children.

The accommodation is both luxurious and stylish. All of the lodges come with a private outdoor hot tub apart from the Chestnut and the Alder Lodge.  A hot tub is the ultimate way to relax and unwind after a busy day.  We love the Chestnut Lodge VIP for couples with a contemporary living area and one double bedroom.  For families and groups then the Birch Lodge is ideal.  This lodge was new in 2009 and provides stylish living space with a balcony and amazing views.  All of the accommodation comes with flatscreen TV and DVD.

Fun Days Out in Vale Of York

Jorvik Viking Centre

Jorvik Viking Centre is a fun and educational attraction offering visitors the chance to learn all about the Viking-Age city of Jorvik. Thanks to the Archaeologists from York Archaeological Trust the amazing houses, workshops and backyards of the Viking-Age city of Jorvik are on display and give a clear insight to the way of life all those years ago.  The site aims to offer an interactive experience with the state of the art time capsule and the blacksmith's furnace being the top attractions.

Dig

Dig is a unique and somewhat educational attraction in York offering children the opportunity to enjoy excavation, discovery, and digging. Within the site is a discovery centre, several pits filled with Roman and Medieval ruins and a science lab where children can take part in exciting experiments. Staff are on hand at all times to help the children and to ensure they get the most from the experience. The attraction can get busy during school holidays and pre booking is recommended.

Castle Howard

Castle Howard is one of the regions most beautiful and historic landmarks and is located in 1,000 acres of parkland with breathtaking gardens to explore. As well as exploring the castle visitors can enjoy attractios including the unique Land Train - the best way to see the entire park. There is also a large lake offering boat trips during the summer months. In high season the site is very popular with families and offers organised activities for children including tours, talks, crafting and animal encounters. The site also has a Nature Trail which is fun for the whole family and an Adventure Playground where children can run off some energy.

Scarborough Sea Life and Marine Sanctuary
If you are enjoying a lodge break in the Yorkshire Moors and Coast then a day trip to the Scarborough Sea Life and Marine Sanctuary highly recommended. This centre is one of the regions most popular attractions and is educational as well as fun. Visitors will enjoy a journey beneath the waves, meeting many strange, beautiful and fascinating creatures of the deep. As well as mighty sharks and beautiful rays guests can get up close to some more common creatures including star fish and can also meet the otters, seals and penguins at feeding time. The site also has children's play area and picnic tables as well as a restaurant and souvenir shop. Family tickets cost Ł46.80 but the Tourist Information Centres in Scarborough, Whitby or Filey often offer fantastic discounts.
Creepy Crawlies
Come rain or shine children need to be entertained and Creepy Crawlies just north of York is the perfect place! This all weather attraction caters for toddlers and children up to 12 years old with a huge array of climbing equipment, ball pools, slides, chutes and adventure areas. Adults can relax and enjoy a coffee and a snack while the kids are having fun.  The site also has a large and rather impressive outdoor area with pet zone and pedal track with Go karts. There is also a pond with fish and a sensory zone where children can touch and feel new and interesting things.

Could not check in until 4pm. It did say this on booking confirmation but I never read that part until I was rung by staff telling us for extra money we could check in at 2pm. How sneaky is that? If you cant go in until 4pm it makes it a short first stay day. We actually did pay the extra for this reason but I have never checked in as late anywhere ever as late as 4pm.

The Hot tub was warm but not hot until the 2nd day and there fore unusable in January. Again this was stated on the booking details when I read it thoroughly after the above incident. But as we had only booked 2 night we were really dissappointed.

The lodge its self was beautiful and well serviced and it is such a shame the 2 above mentioned issues blighted our stay.

We found a plate in the cupboard that was very dirty but would not come clean and in the welcome book it mentioned robes and we did not have none but it informed us that you could hire them for a small fee.

I have stayed in a number of lodges. The fir tree lodge was one of the best. New, clean, maintained to a very high standard and very comfortable. I would definitely recommend this lodge and hope to book again next year.

Jean
Had a fantastic week the only issue would be the cabin we were in could have been a bit more secluded where the hot tin was as we had a view of car park not very private
Karen
Large lodges well equipped and lots of room well furnished . Hot tub is great in lovely setting can’t wsit to go back !
F
We found the lodges clean and nicely decorated, we were in lodge 33 and the hot tub was situated nicely so that it wasn't in full view but also not round the back in the dark with nothing to look at! The lodge overlooked a lake and was a lovely view and setting, it was very peaceful which is what we wanted and the pub on site was decently priced and lovely food and staff very friendly. Would definitely go again and would recommend
Tracey
We absolutely loved our time here. I do think 4pm check in however is too late as it wastes half a day. If it’s 4 check in it should bec4 check out but it’s 12. The lady on reception wasn’t very friendly she just did her job. Also we had to ring about the fridge because it wasn’t working but was told it couldn’t be fixed till the day after because maintenance weren’t on premises any longer hence milk and some other foods had to be thrown! Other than this myself, my partner and children loved it.
