Great Wood Lodges
Nestling within 20 acres of beautiful woodland, and close to the Howardian Hills, these eco-friendly lodges blend into the peaceful, tranquil environment with gorgeous views across the coarse fishing lake. Great Wood Lodges are within easy travelling distance of York, Whitby and Harrogate - and the North Yorkshire Moors are perfect for exploring on foot or by bike.
The village of Flaxton is about two miles away where there are plenty of cycle routes and walks, as well as horse riding and golf. You can also visit some of the town's pubs - The Blacksmith's in the village serves some cracking local beers. No visit to York would be complete without a visit to Betty's Tea Rooms and a tour of the 13th century cathedral.
Great Wood Lodge is timber-framed with a galleried roof and wooden oak floors. It's been constructed using natural insulation, plant oil-based paints and energy saving lighting. Perfect for four adults or a couple, there's a double bedroom with ensuite and a twin room, an open plan lounge/diner and patio doors that open onto a covered verandah with lovely views.
Book a ride on the Pickering steam train and soak up the spectacular views of the North Yorkshire Moors then head to the National Railway Museum in York for a history of the railways.

Beautiful place and people very relaxing high quality accommodation
great place for adults to relax
My husband and I enjoyed a lovely weekend break at Great Wood Lodges. The Lodge was one of just four in an idyllic woodland setting overlooking the lake. The wood is full of delightful wildlife which we enjoyed whilst relaxing on our verandah. My husband enjoyed a spot of fishing in the lake just yards from the lodge. We were welcomed by the owner who explained all we needed to know about the Lodge and park. There was a lovely welcome pack of tea, coffee, sugar, milk and wine. The Lodge was beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean. Everything we needed was provided - beautiful towels, and toiletries and a well equipped kitchen.
Great Wood is a fantastic place to relax and recharge. Don and Helen are the most amazing hosts, so friendly and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble. The lodge was perfect in every way - well equipped, homely and immacuately clean. The surroundings are beautiful and the fishing was great! We loved every minute of our third visit and look forward to going back. A wonderful place and we are even more in love than ever, thanks Great Wood.
We thoroughly enjoyed our few days in a this comfortable, well equipped lodge in an beautiful peaceful location, hidden in a wood. Great place to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. We loved watching the wildlife on the lake and in the forest from the lodge windows.
Very high standard accommodation that was very clean and well maintained. Truly relaxing holiday, in lovely rural setting lots of wildlife to watch.
A fabulous place to escape to and recharge the batteries.Don and Helen have got it spot on will definitely return again
Had excellent stay at "Great wood lodges" owners very welcoming and friendly.
Lodges were very well equipped with everything you could possibly need.
Great views of lake with plenty of wild life.
Fishing was excellent with lake having a good stock of carp averaging about 4/5 lbs with plenty of bigger specimens to be had.
Very clean and tidy lodges with lovely views of the lake and animals that live there. Owners pleasant and helpful and have obviously put great thought into their guests comfort. Extremely quite and peaceful but actually not far from York and other attractions. The holiday had all the peace of being in the country and getting back to nature you find in camping while still having the luxury you would expect in a good hotel.
This is a lovely place to stay. The owners are so friendly and helpful. The fishing is great.
