Captain Cooks Haven

We chose to visit Captain Cook’s Haven Yorkshire in the springtime and on arrival were immediately struck by the stunning views. The park benefits from a fantastic elevated setting and many of the cottages have balconies or terraces, to really make the most of those views. We were greeted by very friendly reception staff and felt that the site had a very welcoming feel. The location and views make Captain Cook’s Haven just perfect for a relaxing holiday.

The park is split into 2 main levels with 22 cottages on each. We had opted for a Discovery Cottage and were very pleased with our choice. The “upside down” cottage, on the upper level had a spacious living area, modern kitchen with dishwasher and one double and two twin bedrooms. This cottage would be perfect for families and also has fantastic river views.

There are 7 other options for accommodation here including Adventure Cottage which also sleep 6 and Ayton Cottages which sleep 4. Valley View caravans are also available and are ideal for those on a budget. We had a peek inside one and found them to be spacious and really well-equipped.

The grounds are well maintained with an attractive garden area with BBQ, tables and chairs and a children’s play area. The site also has an indoor swimming pool which came in handy on a couple of rainy days.

The location is fantastic, whether you are looking for fun family daytrips or outdoor pursuits. During our stay we visited nearby Sewerby Hall where we enjoyed a wander around the stately home and gardens. We also spent a day in the popular seaside town of Whitby, less than 2 miles away, where we enjoyed fish and chips on the sea front and the traditional funfair. Parents with young children may also wish to visit the local soft play centre, Mini Monsters. Less than 1 mile from the park, it is the perfect place for little ones to run around.

We really enjoyed our short stay at Captain Cook’s haven and would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing holiday base in Yorkshire.
