Date of stay: 7th April 2024
We stayed in Puffin Lodge on Arthur's Lake and the lodge itself was amazing, so clean and very well equipped for self catering as we were, the surroundings were idyllic, peaceful and beautiful. The hot tub was so lovely, and not overlooked so lots of privacy, I'd definitely go back again and will be booking for around the same time next year.

Where to start with this hidden gem! Check in was seamless and easy to navigate, the lodge was immaculate on arrival with all the info we needed in the lodge. We headed over to the on-site restaurant The Ugly Duckling to see if we could grab a bite to eat (despite not booking a table) as our party met there straight from work, and they fit us in even though they were cleaning and closing down. The food quality was gorgeous, you wouldnt tell we were the last table of the night at all. The staff were fantastic, attentive but not in your face and had a fantastic laugh with our table. We loved it so much we returned for their breakfast. 2 for £18 (10% off if staying in a lodge too!) all with fresh ingredients and lovely quality tea and coffee included. Again different staff from the previous evening but all equally as warm and welcoming. The lodge itself is to a fabulous spec. Super clean, has everything you could ever need and the hot tub setting is just lush. The hosepipe enabled us to top it up all through the weekend and the atmosphere around the lake was just so serene and peaceful, although others were staying close by you couldnt hear them and the placement of the walls/verandas made it so you almost felt as if it was just us and our party. Walking around the grounds my partner and brother in law bumped into the maintenance man and he was great, he talked them all through the lakes, grounds and animals they have. They even met the ground tortoises and had a mini lesson in fish, he was so knowledgable and although busy took time out of his day to really interact with us as guests too. We are already looking to return and just want to say a personal thankyou to all those working the weekend 17-20th November for making it such a memorable weekend for us. Hopefully see you again soon!

Lodge very comfortable, as the weather was brilliantly hot the air con was a godsend. Beds were very comfortable so a good nights sleep was guaranteed. Only minors were as follows, more cutlery would be beneficial along with a clothes airer to help dry towels after use of the hot tub, and in the bathroom the toilet brushes need replacing as they are rust/dirty which spoils the overall appearance of the en-suit

Date of stay: 15th May 2023
Really nice lodge with lovely peaceful surroundings. It doesn't have a parking space next to it, we had totally missed this on the booking site (so our fault for not noticing), just something to make others aware of.The hot tub was fantastic, so lovely to be able to relax in the tub whilst watching the ducks swim by.Only thing that could slightly improve the lodge would be some net curtains or shutters. With curtains open during the day for natural light, everybody can see completely into all the rooms (including bedrooms). Some kind of net curtain would let the light in whilst still retaining a bit of privacy in case you come out of the shower and totally forget the curtains are open!

Overall good could do you have improvement done to make it more suitable for people who have mobility issues. Parking for your cars should be made near to the lodge as walking for some people is difficult. I found the park nice we did not go to the restaurant to eat so can not comment. The staff were helpful and our stay was okay.

The lodge was superb, very clean and spacious. Large hottub which wasnt very overseen. Quite beautiful lake. The beds and sofas were. Quite hard and not very comfortable, the log cabin wasnt stocked for 4 people. It only had 4 plates, cups etc but more is required. The WIFI wasnt great and we werent able to connect.

Unfortunately the restaurant was closed due to a breakdown. Massive disappointment as we had not taken any food with us. Was really looking forward to eating out each day. Can not fault the accommodation in anyway
Julie, Middlesbrough
Date of stay: 29th May 2022
We did have a problem with the shower door as the bracket snapped so we were unable to pull it across. We told reception and they went to take a look but were unable to fix it. This didn't bother us as we were still able to use the shower. We did think for the price you pay for the lodges, that this should have been fixed before we arrived because this was obviously broken as the door was extremely hard to pull across.
Susan, Sheffield
Date of stay: 27th May 2022
We found the restaurant to be hit-and-miss with food one day it was lovely another day it wasn't nice at all and I had to complain I did get a discount on it one day we had to wait 35 minutes after sitting down before we even got a drink and our meals kingfisher lodge was cosy but bed hard and uncomfortable and pillows not good we had a terrible sleep all week, bathrooms very small we would not choose that lodge again, for the cost of it we expect better
Sandra, Doncaster
