If you are looking to escape the hustle and bustle of modern day living - if only for a short while - then look no further than Border Forest Lodges which provide a real rural retreat.  Located next to Kielder Forest you have stunning forest walks and an array of wildlife right on the doorstep.

There is a choice of two types of lodge, the Heron Lodge which sleeps 6 and the Goshawk Lodge which sleeps 4.  The Heron Lodge provides spacious accommodation with a modern feel.  With two doubles and one twin bedroom the lodge comfortably sleeps up to 6 adults. The real highlight of the Heron Lodge is the decking area leading out from the lodge where you will find a private outdoor hot tub with amazing views over the brook.

The Goshawk Lodge is just as spectacular and more suited to couples and smaller families with two bedrooms sleeping 4.  This is brand new for 2011 and is a timber clad luxury accommodation with a stylish and spacious interior.  The open plan living is perfect for families and there are doors leading out to the decking area with magnificent views over the brook.  Again you have the added bonus of an outdoor hot tub.

If you love outdoor activities like walking, cycling, mountain biking and pony trekking then this area is ideal.  We think both families and couples would enjoy holidays at Border Forest Lodges and there are some fun days out in the region when you want to get out and about.  Of course Kielder Water and Forest Park, 10 miles from the lodges, is a must see.  With a really tranquil feel this is the perfect spot to relax of take part in some activities such as cycling and horse riding.

Other recommended days out include Harestanes Countryside Visitor Centre, a fantastic all weather day out for the whole family, and Heatherslaw Light Railway which actually runs for over 2 miles on a 50 minute return journey from Heatherslaw to Etal Village

Our Top Tip
"Take a ride on the Heatherslaw Light Railway from Cornhill-on-tweed, and enjoy a memorable steam railway journey lasting 50 minutes and covering 2 miles Heatherslaw to Etal Village."

Fun Days Out in Northumberland

Conundrum Farm

With easy access from the A1 this lovely farm just north of Berwick makes a fantastic family day out.  Follow the farm trail and meet an array of friendly farm animals.  Kids will also enjoy the indoor and outdoor play areas, pet barn and tractor circuit.  The admission fee is excellent value and you will get a free bag of food for the animals and a bag of fish food for the trouts in the fish pond. When you want a bite to eat, the licensed restaurant is the place to go with quality home cooking and a charming location in some of the converted farm buildings.

Go Ape Northumberland

Go Ape! has really taken off and become one of the most popular attractions in the UK.  The Northumberland course is set in the stunning grounds of Matfin Hall.  Described as a high wire forest adventure this really is one for the more daring as the course takes place right up in the tree tops.  Giant tree top obstacle courses include ladders, bridges, tunnels and some of the country's best zip lines.  You will be provided with all safety equipment and training on site.

Excellent park, we stayed in the Heron Lodge and it was right next to the stream, very relaxing. Rooms were very clean and tidy and spacious enough for the 4 of us and our 2 dogs. We had a nice drive to Jedburgh (25 minutes) to stock up on supplies, it's also a nice drive to Kielder. We would definitely recommend this place.

From arriving to leaving nothing was too much trouble for the staff of the park, the lodge was beautiful and spotlessly clean. They have thought of everything to make your holiday special even down to having a pair of binoculars in the lodge for the dark skies. Can’t recommend enough already booked to visit again

Fantastic lodge in a beautiful rural setting. Owners are so very helpful and friendly. We have stayed in this lodge five or six times now and despite thinking it is perfect every time we go back new tweaks have been made. Highly recommended.

Great people Simon and Cathy were wonder hosts and sympathetic when we found ourselves stuck on the site due to being snowed in. The forest and surroundings are stunning to walk. I would highly recommend.
