Visitor Reviews of Thanet Well Lodge Retreat

Mr Swindlehurst
One of the best accommodations I have ever stayed in, the grounds were lovely, the views were great and not to far from the lakes. It is a great please to stop at and to use as your base for exploring the Lake District or just to use as a retreat to get away from it all and just kick off your shoes & relax.

Quiet location. Our lodge was very nice. The rest of the lodges on site looked good. A mini shop is available with just enough essentials. You definitely need a car to get around as you are pretty isolated. There is a pub 4 mile away. Plenty of walks to explore. This break for us was lovely, peaceful with only the sound of the sheep in the distance bleating. The tranquility suited us perfectly. Will definitely go back.

Our lodge was lovely and clean, the views were beautiful but the onsite staff, particularly the maintenance man was so incredibly rude. He approached us on the first night and was extremely rude and unprofessional. No customer service skills at all. He needs to learn how to approach people and speak to them in an appropriate manor. This is not the only run in we had with him. On a morning when he would come to check the chemical levels in the hot tub he was heard outside swearing and shouting making us feel very intimidated. The hot tubs were very out in the open for people walking by to watch you. We often caught the maintenance man walking by staring at us for no reason. I felt like I had to be locked up in my lodge for the duration of my stay as if I went outside I was being watched. Personally I would not stay here or recommend staying here unless you like rude unreasonable people speaking down to you.

Great weekend - lovely quiet site for a peaceful break - can get all over the Lake District - lodge comfortable and spacious for the whole family with the bonus of the hot tub and lovely views - staff are helpful and friendly and the mini shop open sometimes is really handySome lodges could do with a little freshen up in parts - but not so it spoils anything - great stay as always

This is our favourite lodge at Thanet Well. It is so luscious inside with plenty of room for a family of 4 + a dog. The lodge was clean with extra added little details that make it special. Great facilities if you want to make a meal at home.

Lodge 15 needs a refresh. As mentioned in my site review, it is dirty and tired at best. Ripped curtains, dirty walls, black mould and mismatched furniture do not make you feel welcome. The broken bath panel was replaced and the hottub cover was repaired quickly. Hopefully they stick to their word and close this caravan until all issues are remedied. Though I doubt it

Nice quiet site at a nice location. Bit of a mish mash of lodges though. Despite being told on the phone we were booking a more modern lodge, we were in one of the oldest lodges on site (lodge 29). It was comfortable but dated. Amazing view from the decking. Somebody got bored painting the decking I think, it stops dead on the way down to the gate lol. Its also hard to know if the CO2 and smoke alarms were in date because they were installed everywhere! Instead of taking the old ones down when installing a new one, they were all left up all over the place and didnt have installation dates on them. Door handles were falling off on most rooms which I half fixed myself, fire place not working, toilet broken etc. The maintenance team are nice blokes and really helpful, round straight away fixing stuff when you ask. So much stuff broken though you dont want to keep asking and risk looking like a complainer. Perhaps they need one or two more of them to get ahead of things breaking.WiFi was only available in our bedroom despite being so close to reception (which I assume is where the router is?) so couldnt use smart TV features. The hot tub water is well looked after with the maintenance guys coming round twice a day to check it. Same issue as everywhere else though with broken jets etc.We also had an issue with bedding. I agreed with reception that they would come in and change it halfway through our 2 week break, but we came back from a long day out to find it dumped outside and expected to make the place up ourselves. It wasnt what we agreed at check in when they asked if I minded somebody going in there to do it with us out.Lake District is basically on your doorstep though with Keswick being a short drive away.

This is our third visit to the location. First time was excellent second time we werent told by hoseasons that a lot of work was going on. This visit the site was spotless and the staff excellent however the log cabin was so tired and needed a lot of work on it. Walls could be seen where mould had come through, windows broken where the double glazing had broken down. One window had a crank in it. Hot tub, once you had finished getting rid of the polyurethane bits from the cover that was ripped, this was lovely. Decking covered in bird mess because of the birds nest on the cabin. Decking furniture wasnt in the best state. We hardly spent anyone in the cabin so just got on with enjoying the break. Like I say the location was excellent and the staff brilliant.

We were greated by lovely polite staff, with cute little doggy bags and balls for the dogs. We stayed in lodge 9, it had a beautiful view of the countryside and mountains. But unfortunately this was the only positive. The outdoor seating area was grubby, with mossy/algea paving and wooden fences. All needed a good jet wash and repaint. We placed tea towels on the outside chair cushions because they were filthy. Inside the lodge just looked run down and as though it required a good refresh. Other lodges from the outside looking in definitely looked nicer than ours. So we did feel as though we were a last minute purchase when we booked well in advance. The hot tub was the worse hot tub we have ever been in. It was basically a large bath. Jets didnt work./ had zero effects. On one side it also had broken bits of patio. We wouldnt go back, which is a real shame as this was for our first wedding anniversary.

Never stayed in a lodge before but we were pleasantly surprised, very spacious and clean had pretty much everything you could need for a self catering holiday, we took my husband's kids who are 16yrs and 23 yrs old and so booked the 3 bed lodge with two bathrooms, was perfect. Staff really welcoming and friendly. Nice little shop for the essentials, as you are in the middle of nowhere and the main supermarket was about 15 mins drive away. Would definitely stay here again, ideal place for those who like peace and quiet and don't mind driving to different attractions as located above the top end of the Lake District.

Very comfortable and spacious lodge. The private hot tub was a most enjoyable bonus, not overlooked and with beautiful views across open countryside. Staff were polite and helpful. The location was somewhat remote, accessed by country roads but, if you are prepared for this, should you wish to visit the local area the privacy, quality of accommodation for the price and provision of all you need for your stay make this a great base to explore the North of the Lake District.
