Excellent facilities, panoramic views of the Ochil Hills and gorgeous lodge accommodation – The Woods in Alva is a wonderful base for exploring the glorious Stirling countryside. It is within easy driving distance of Stirling, Perth and Fife and surrounded by woodlands, walks and scenic cycle routes. Edinburgh with its many visitor attractions is just 25 miles away.

The Woods has a restaurant, café and shop, as well as a children’s playground and convenient launderette. There are plenty of places to eat and drink – try the ‘Best of Scottish’ at the Unicorn Bar & Grill in Alloa where they regularly feature Buccleuch beef and west coast seafood. A walk along the Fife coastal path with spectacular views of the local scenery is a must.

Woods Lodge is luxurious and contemporary with mountain views and a spacious, open plan living area. It sleeps up to eight people with one master double with ensuite shower, two twin bedrooms and additional sleeping for two people in the lounge area. The lodge has a large patio area with outdoor furniture, a flat screen TV with Freeview and DVD/CD player.

There are sporting activities of all kinds in the area – you could go dry skiing or snowboarding at the Polmonthill Centre in Falkirk where they have a 100m floodlit slope and a 20m nursery slope or try your hand at flying a microlight or go tandem hang gliding at the Pegasus Flight Training School in Perth.

Our Top Tip
" If you love wildlife, you could visit the seal pools at Deep Sea world in Fife or the Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre at Comrie, set in 100 acres of beautiful countryside."

Fun Days Out in Clackmannan-shire

Landmark Theme Park is a popular family attraction in Scotland and is a great choice for those with children of varied ages. The site is packed with attractions to keep the whole family amused. Landmark is rather unique as a theme park as it is based around nature. Activities include Tree Topping and Rock climbing although there are also some more traditional theme park rides such as a log flume. The park is abundant with nature including Red Squirrels and Clydesdale Horses and there is also a new Pinewood Grill for tasty snacks and a Gift Shop.

The amazing Loudoun Castle Theme Park is the largest in Scotland taking up a staggering 500 acres of glorious countryside. The park is suitable for visitors of all ages and has an excellent choice of rides including thrilling Rollercoasters. The site also hosts some fantastic family shows including the popular 'Walk the Plank' High Dive Show.  This place is much more than a theme park though, and younger children in particular will love the Dougal McDougal's farm area where the inhabitants include friendly goats, pigs and llamas as well as rabbits and other small pets.

Clean and comfortable mini lodge with everything needed for a few days relaxing break. Only downside is a small work surface in the kitchen area that makes it difficult to wash up. Wouldn't stop me staying again though.

Wild I stay at The Woods again? YES, in fact it is my second visit to this location and again everything was perfect. Due to unforseen circumstances The Woods lost their WiFi network due to a fire in the reception just before our arrival, but within 24 hours of being there it was all sorted. This park is perfect if you want to kick back and relax, lovely views and a great restaurant at the park gate. It is also well located for traveling to nearby attractions. Stirling is only 7 miles away, Dunfermline is not far either. Edinburgh is half an hour away so plenty ideas for taking kids too. I would definitely go back for a third and fourth time
