Visitor Reviews of Grattons Cedar Lodges

Really enjoyed my stay here. The wonderful views of Berrynarbour out the windows of our lodge. Excellent people running the place they were really friendly and helpful. The best part is that pets can stay. I could take my cat with me which was great. What more could you ask for!

Hoseasons says check in is from 5. On the door of the lodge, it said 3. Get it consistent! On entering, there was a card saying that "we" (the owners? Maintenance staff?) would be round every day and giving a phone number for any problems. I saw no evidence of anyone coming round and, when we sent a text about some issues, we got no reply. The property could have been cleaned better. Big, dirty cobweb in the shower. Lots of other little but more recent cobwebs. Doors were dirty with finger marks. On the walls next to the bed there were marks which I hope were coffee or tea splashes. And some human hairs stuck to the wall.In the bathroom the light didn't work (although there was a light above the mirror which helped). The shower on high power was scalding. On "Eco" you get little more than a dribble, although you can get that to a reasonable temperature. The shower holder fell apart. The flush was enthusiastic but ineffective so it could take 4 or more flushes to get rid of everything. I'm 6ft and I couldn't see any of my face in the mirror unless I bent down. The bin hadn't been emptied.Cooking facilities were OK and the pans were decent. The sofa was the least comfortable that I've ever spent a week with. The advert promised a DVD player, which appeared to be part of the TV but it didn't work. The TV was small with a limited number of Freeview channels (basically BBC, ITV, 4 and 5) and the audio was poor: it sounded distorted. And the pedal on the pedal bin was broken. The promised wifi didn't work: couldn't get our phones to connect at all; my laptop did connect but couldn't connect to the Internet. I did re-check the advert and the DVD and wifi appeared to have been removed. The bedroom was very small with a small wardrobe and no drawers at all. There were sockets on one side of the bed. On the other side there were some in the wall but cables to the bedside table would have trailed across the doorway. The bed was OK.There were a number of heaters, which were good and effective. The front door didn't fit brilliantly, with the result that we had a couple of slugs visit us.The view was pretty good. All in all, it was a pretty uncomfortable experience, offset only by the low price.

Just a very basic cabin .inside the drawers had a funny smell had to go out an but fresheners. The toilet didn't smell nice.

We were advised that there were steps to the cabin, but not that they were like crazy paving and quite uneven. No WiFi in cabin. Windows left open and the cabin was full of bugs and flies. No allocated parking, the only space was where we were blocking the access point, due to the occupants of adjoining cabin taking up a whole space for 2 cars with a mini. If you are over 6 feet tall, you'll struggle with the shower. If you want to watch the TV, take binoculars as it is tiny. The bed is extremely uncomfortable and there is very little storage for clothes. We left after one night and booked a premier Inn, just for a good nights sleep.

Its a lovely place and has so much potential but it needs some attention. The bed felt like it was going to fall apart if you so much as rolled over in your sleep, the pillows were closely related to prison pillows, although there was two they were as thin as card and dread to think how old they are. There was a loose fitting sheet over the mattress which obviously moved about and in the morning we noticed that the fitted bottom sheet had what looked like urine stains over it. The pans had seen better days and had to be cleaned before use. The kettle had brown dirt on the outside. The sofa had holes in the cushions. The shower head bar was broken so you had to hold the shower head while showering or risk the whole thing falling off and smacking you in the head (which did happen). The brush and pan provided to sweep the floor was pretty much useless as all the bristles were bent and out of shape. It was a real shame because it was such a lovely place and the views are incredible, but for what we paid and the fact we were charged extra to bring my dog, and given the way the place was represented is abit of a cheek to be honest. For the price I paid (almost £100 a night) I was very disappointed.

Stayed here for a week in June. Very nice location and well priced with stunning views over the village and farm fields.Very close to local beaches and walking distance to two local pubs in the area. A short drive to Woolacombe and other bigger beaches. The host Justin was very friendly and helpful. The accommodation was very comfortable and served all of our needs. Will definitely recommend this place and will book this again for future stays.

Compact but clean and tidy. Wardrobe space a little tight for two but we did have to pack for various types of weather that had been forecast, so probably meant we actually had the equivalent of four people's clothes.Shower was warm and there was instant hot water from the water heater. Bed was comfy and sheets duvet etc. were clean and were already made up on arrival. Nice table and chairs outside to sit and drink your complementary Prosecco, weather permitting.

I had a fantastic weekend in the Putsborough lodge. The lodge was clean, spacious and had the right amount of facilities. The view was incredible from the front and had a lovely place to sit to relax. The beds were comfortable and the setting was all together great. It's a great place to come for a quiet relaxing weekend where you don't want to do much. I would definitely come back.

The lodge was in need of TLC as paint was chipped on the beds. The overall effect was disappointing. This was not suitable for older people with mobility problems and was not mentioned on the info before booking.

Its criminal the owner can take money but not clean the place I bought cleaning products and cleaned it myself. No one on site or answers the phone straight away. I usually stay at hawkchurch resort and spa and I will be returning there I get a lovely clean cabin with towels. This place needs to be closed for a while to bring the cabins up to standard and new furniture bought or hire a cleaner.

The location of the lodges is just beautiful, unfortunately the standard of cleanliness inside the lodge really let the place down. It was dirty, rubbish left from previous guests. Very expensive for the standard inside the lodge.

This was the perfect place for a quiet holiday especially with a dog/dogs. Lovely location with gorgeous walks accessible without even getting in the car! It was a 20 minute walk from the back of the site ( through the excellent dog walking field) to the lovely harbour of Watermouth and the south west coastal park. The lodge itself was perfect with a couple of dogs and the deck outside with far reaching views made it a great place to sit around and relax. There are also 2 pubs within walking distance - the one in the village especially lovely. Justin, the site manager, who is around most days is very helpful and knows the area really well. He is happy to give advice on where to go etc. All in all a great place to get away from it all and relax and enjoy the stunning countryside and coast.

On arrival I found the fridge to have mould in it so I had to clean it before I could put my food in it, the plates, cups & pans also had to be cleaned. I found a dog chew & plenty of dust under a radiator, the bathroom was also dirty & the bathroom window will not close so every morning we had a collection of bugs, the toilet seat was broken. The bed was comfy but we had to pull it out every night to be able to get into bed. The sofa needs replacing. The outside of the lodge was filthy, cobwebs in the open windows & mould on the inside of the windows, the windows need cleaning.

Need to travel as not a lot in the area, extremely hilly. The dogs had a great time in the surrounding woods. Would be really helpful if there was a map with all the local walks in the room, we met a local lady the day before we left and she said you could buy one in the shop which was too late for us to know. Room had everything we needed, not the cleanest and we did have a visiting mouse under the kitchen sink but didnt see it on our stay just left its poop. Pub down the hill is dog friendly and food was lovely. We walked for miles and visited Ilfracombe, Woolacombe and Castle Hill. The conformation emails says you cannot arrive until 5pm but you can actually have the room from 3pm and dont have to leave until 10am on the last day. I would not go back only because I feel we did everything we could in the area and it is too far out.
Debbie
Great location with lovely views. Fantastic for us and 3 dogs with walks all around. Great base for exploring north Devon. Accommodation was basic but everything we needed. Would visit again.
Sharron
Very friendly and helpful staff; Justin! Lovely clean lodge, with everything we needed. Beautiful views and a lovely dog walk at the back of the site. Up a very steep hill! But well worth it. Would highly recommend. Our second visit.
