Visitor Reviews of Penvale Lakes Lodges

Oliver Stewart
This was our first holiday to Wales and we enjoyed it very much. The scenery is out of this world. We love outdoor sports and enjoyed cycling and some great walks while we were there. Our lodge was one of the smaller ones on the site but it was lovely and had everything we could need. We will probably opt for one of the lodges with hot tubs next time though.

Very by "Shabby" state of decor, furniture and fittings. Certainly expect much better given the current accommodation booking fees.

Overall a lovely and very peaceful place to stay for adults. Close to Llangollen, shops ,pubs and eateries. Lodge facilities more than adequate, even down to the utility room with washing machine and lots of storage.Loved being next to a little lake too.Plenty of outside space ,maybe decking and steps could be improved but that is all. Looking forward to booking again.

This is the 4th year we have stayed at Penvale. Each time we have lodge no. 8 Birches lodge. This has massive gone down hill. Huge cobwebs, walls are stained and marked. Heater for the pool wasn't working, broken tiles in the bathroom and stained ceiling in bathroom and bedroom. Sofas a horrible, springs sticking out, damaged and the backs have gone to the point where you feel upu would end up on the floor if you lent back. Decking is rotten and unsafe. Poor wifi I can provide pictures. Shame because the location is perfect and the staff are lovely but constantly having to deal with complaints

We stayed in the Birch 8 berth lodge and honestly, it was so spacious with stunning views through those big windows. The kitchen was fully stocked, which was great, though some cushions might really make it feel cosier inside. The decking could do with a bit of a refresh, but that doesnt spoil the stay. The hot tub was massive and kept the temperature perfectly, which was a huge plus. Wed definitely return to Penvelle for the scenery and location-really lovely!

Not the best property, as needs updating, really poor cleanliness. Painting and a few maintenance repairs need attention. Furniture could do with an update they look grubby and are very uncomfortable. Hot tub only worked for two nights because it broke down.

From the get-go, we were really impressed with the lodge. Its spacious, well-equipped and had everything we needed - utensils, amenities, the lot. We came as a group of five, with ages ranging from 24 to 82and there was plenty of room for everyone. The downstairs en suite was a real lifesaver for our oldest member, especially with mobility issues, making getting around much easier. Honestly, the place was spotless, which is a massive plus these days. One thing to note is the decking area - its a bit tired and showing signs of wear, but we saw the maintenance guy inspecting it, so thats likely to be sorted soon. The pool was a highlight for us. Booking a slot meant we had it all to ourselves for 45 minutes - such a treat! We think its probably a temporary change due to the pandemic, but honestly, wed love if they kept it like that. Its perfect for anyone not super confident in the water or just wanting some peace and quiet after lockdowns. The staff were lovely - friendly, helpful and a pleasure to chat with. We wouldnt hesitate to go back to Penvale Lakes and we definitely recommend it. Great job to everyone there during these tricky times!

We really enjoyed the location and the cosy place itself. A couple of small things couldve made it perfect - like coat hangers on the doors, especially when theyre wet. Also, a measuring jug wouldve been handy for breakfast prep. Still, overall, a lovely stay!

We really enjoyed our stay. The place was super clean, roomy and comfy with all the essentials. Only knocked a point because the decking was a bit worn and needed some fixing up. Still, lovely overall!

Leah
One of the best holidays we have had! Quite position - just the babbling brook! Lovely fishing, swimming and jacuzzi. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Julie
Beautiful and relaxing. Just what was needed.
Louise
Great lodge with a hot tub in beautiful surroundings. We had amazing weather and the kids really enjoyed using the outdoor pool (which is covered when the weather isn’t so good). It took about an hour to walk to Llangollen which is a lovely little town. Lots of lovely walks along the canal, the river or through the countryside. It’s a shame that there isn’t a bar or restaurant on-site. There are 2 pubs nearby (not open every day) and a bar/restaurant at the nearby campsite though.
Carolyn
Stunning setting, peaceful & relaxing. We went as a group of 8 to celebrate a 50th birthday, the lodge was everything we wanted, spacious living & kitchen area, which was well equipped, and we made the most of the bbq & hot tub! Bit of a walk into Llangollen and no pavement on busy stretch of road
Suzette
