Essex » Southminster

Discover Steeple Bay and escape to a wonderful, waterside retreat.

Situated on the coast near Southminster, the park is the hidden treasure of the South East of England, with ready access to the Mayland Creek.

If you’re looking for a relaxing getaway for all the family then Steeple Bay is the right place to be.

Choose to spend time in our Riverside bar or take a dip in the heated outdoor swimming pool, while the kids have fun around the park with Loopy and his friends.

Or take to the nearby waters; you don’t have to be an active boatman to enjoy the location though, just watching the boats and yachts go by is the perfect therapy for todays stressful lifestyle.

The park boasts great facilities including a well-stocked fishing lake (with day tickets available from reception), an adventure playground and an amusement arcade.

Along with our leisure pool there is also a paddling pool for our very youngest guests.

Visit the clubhouse to round off a perfect day with tasty food and drink available, along with live music and top shows during busier periods.

The medieval town of Maldon is nearby with lots of shops and great restaurants to discover (Thursdays and Saturdays are best as they are market days).

Other "must-see" Essex attractions worth jumping in the car for, include Adventure Island, Chelmsford Miniature Railway, Colchester Zoo nd the famous pier at Clacton-on-Sea.

Or just revel in the majesty of the park surroundings; Steeple Bay Holiday Park sits along the banks of the Blackwater Estuary with beautiful unspoiled views across the water and, if you are lucky the sight of seals that are frequent visitors to the area.

The seals love the area, and in all likelihood so will you!.

The caravan itself was absolutely lovely and although the site was way off the beaten track, it was on the whole, not too bad. However....having arrived approximately 1-1/2 hours early, I was informed by a young receptionist (in a 'couldn't care less' attitude) to come back at about 3 o'clock, but we could use the facilities. Hmmmmmm...off we went into the clubhouse-cum-restaurant and sat at a table not too far away from the bar and noticed a huge menu on a wall next to the bar hatch, so we went across to have a look to see what food was available, only to be told abruptly by some member of the bar team that "that menu isn't available yet; use the one on your table!" I felt properly told off, like a naughty school kid. Chicken burger in a basket with chips and a Pepsi it was, then. Again, hmmmmm....the chips were lovely. The 'pretendy' chicken and the stale bun not so. The Pepsi was some kind of flat diet gak and came in not-so-clean glasses. After finishing our 'meal', we went to use the loo. The smell of cannabis was overpowering, both in the ladies AND gents toilets. Once 3 o'clock came, we headed back to reception to see if we could check-in yet...the patio area outside of reception again, was overpowered with the very strong stench of cannabis. We managed to get checked in and headed off to our 'van and as we were unloading the car, my girlfriend fell over due to a large gap in the flagstones at the bottom of the 'van steps, hurting her wrist and shoulder. I phoned reception, and, to give them their dues, the sent a maintenance team straight out, who said they would cut some new flagstones and come and relay them. They didn't. Both Friday and Saturday nights had some kind of parties going on in caravans round about ours (F11) until the wee small hours. Lovely caravan, lovely area, The site and staff, unfortunately not.

Nice place...caravan was clean and spacious...the kids had a great time in the playground. Reception staff were very helpful and friendly. The kids entertainment was a complete wash out...although there was plenty of preparations going on none of the activities described in the extra leaflet given when arrived actually happened which was a let down but our kids weren't that bothered to be fair. There's a brilliant soft play in maldon (approx 10 miles away) Maddison heights and plenty of shops and other stuff to do...I'm sure in the summer months it's a great place to be..would go again...

We opted for a lower rating caravan which was fine for us. Bit grubby in areas and dogs hairs but I didn't mind having a quick clean when we arrived because the holiday was so reasonably priced.

Remote location but with plenty to do. Can be busy and noisy at the weekend. Site has plenty of facilities. Beware of single track road to site, high hedges and poor visibility.

Steeple Bay fulfils everything we need in the 4 nights we spend there:-excellent location for relaxing walks by the river, interesting places to visit, and ideal for making a day visit to France for shopping, enabling the whole journey via the tunnel to be completed in daylight. The caravans (Magnum Silver) are more than adequate for the short time we spend in them.

Overall holidays was good..was upgraded to silver plus excellent staff ..would just say park is very isolated down country lane.club ok too..and very nice pool area.
Leah, Camberley, Surrey
Date of stay: 31st May 2014
The accommodation was well presented and tidy. Furnishings were good too. However, it would have been helpful if the kids' entertainment was as it was described in the brochure. The kids never got to meet Loopy because adult entertainment was prioritised. Carpet in the bar has a heavy smell of cigarettes and the environment in the bar could be much better to suit kids too.
